New York, NY – Highlights from the April 2005 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors are as follows:

 

  • The Executive Officers (President, Dennis B. Sprung, Chief Operating Officer, John Lyons, Executive Secretary, James Crowley, and Chief Financial Officer, James T. Stevens) were re-elected.

  • The Board approved a proposal to enable all shows in a cluster to have the same closing date. This amendment to Chapter 6, Section 9 of at the Rules Applying to DOG Shows will be read at the June 2005 Delegate Meeting for a vote in September 2005.

  • Qualifications were approved for the National Field Trial Championship StaKes for the Brittany and German Shorthaired Pointer. National Championship Field Trial Stakes were also approved for Gordon Setters. Details appear in the April 2005 minutes.

  • The policy governing Beagle Field trials was amended to enable small pack and small pack option clubs to hold two trials a year in any format the club chooses.

  • The board adopted a comprehensive policy on contractual requirements for commercial filming and/or electronic transmission of AKC approved events. The full policy is published in the minutes of the April 2005 meeting.

  • The board approved the concept of qualified pedigrees and directed AKC management to prepare a plan that could go into effect January 1, 2006. Full details on the plan will be disseminated as it is developed.

  • Carol Fisher, Lansdale, PA to represent Valley Forge Kennel Club, Inc.

  • Patricia K. Howard, Monticello, IL to represent Sandemac Kennel Club

  • Peggy Kessler, Keswick, VA to represent Charlottesville-Albermarle Kennel Club, Inc.

  • Nell Stumpff, Warner Robins, GA to represent Macon Kennel Club
