First American Retriever Team In International Competition

The American Kennel Club is proud to announce that the first American retriever team will be competing in an international Field Trial event.

 

Team USA, sponsored by Purina and the American Kennel Club, is the first American group invited to compete in the International Retriever Event held at the Sherbourne Castle Country Fair in Dorset, England. Team USA will be competing against teams from 13 other countries on May 28th, 29th and 30th .

 

Martin Deeley, President of the International Associate of Canine Professionals will serve as manager and coach for the team. The captain is Mike Lardy, a seven-time winner of AKC's National Retriever Championship.

 

Other team members are:

  • Connie Cleveland: handling AFC-OTCH Topbrass Ascending Elijah, a Golden Retriever

  • Bo Taylor: handling Black Jack Daniels MH, a black Labrador Retriever

  • Brad Bowyer: handling FC Hunting Hills Natchez Trace, a black Labrador Retriever

  • Andy Attar: handling FC-AFC Maple Creek's Maggie May, a yellow Labrador Retriever

"The skill of these dogs and handlers will bring American training methods to the attention of our international competitors and make us all proud."
