After the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, many fanciers and concerned dog owners asked us how they could help the companion animal victims and their owners.

In response, AKC and AKC Companion Animal Recovery began taking donations via the AKC Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund. The Fund, which was created in the wake of 9/11, has donated more than $3 million to search and rescue teams and for companion animal relief during natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.

In only one week, the Fund collected $5,000, which will be donated to the Japan Kennel Club. The JKC will work with local government bodies in Japan to distribute the funds to help displaced companion animals and their owners.

Thank you to all who donated for your generous contributions and for keeping the Japanese people and their pets in your thoughts.
