AKC and AKC CAR have recently reached out to Hawaii-based clubs concerning the recent earthquake.
Although the focus was centered on all-breed and Obedience clubs in the state, local Specialty clubs were also contacted by e-mail or by telephone.
"Our concern was to determine what needed to be done for dogs and their owners in this area as a result of the earthquake," said AKC Corporate Project Manager Marcy Zingler."Thankfully, our clubs advised us that at this time, no supplies or assistance was needed."
Outreach efforts were also extended to dog owners in Buffalo, New York as a result of the early 24 inch snowfall. The numerous all-breed clubs contacted advised us that the situation was under control.
"We were fortunate to have such a quiet hurricane season this year," added Dr. Carmen Battaglia, President and CEO of AKC CAR. However, we remain poised to assist wherever needed and we were pleased to be able to ensure that our clubs in upstate New York and Hawaii had no outstanding needs."
The AKC continues to monitor the situations in both states and will post further updates if developments occur.
