Yesterday, the Cincinnati City Council voted 8-1 to repeal the city’s breed-specific laws, which ban the ownership, transfer, sale, or harboring of any “pit bull terrier” (defined as Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier or any mixed-breed containing one of these breeds) within city limits.
The approved amendments sponsored by Councilman Chris Seelbach would “remove any and all breed-specific language in…the Cincinnati Municipal Code…”
A task force has also been created to review the city’s animal control code and provide recommendations within 90 days. AKC GR will continue to monitor any proposed changes to the city’s code.
We thank and congratulate those who contacted the city about this important ordinance that restores the rights of responsible dog owners in Cincinnati.
