RALEIGH, NC — The AKC Canine Health Foundation is proud to announce that the organization has been awarded the "Best in America" Certificate of Excellence from the Independent Charities of America.

This award is bestowed upon the top national charities by the accrediting organization responsible for management of the Combined Federal Campaign – the yearly philanthropy campaign open to all federal employees including members of the armed services. The award is presented to those charities that continue to keep their costs down while keeping the quality of their work at the highest standard.

"This award represents years' worth of work and the culmination of several important initiatives enacted by our Board of Directors," says Wayne Ferguson, President of the AKC Canine Health Foundation Board. "Our move to the AKC Raleigh Operations Center has been most beneficial in that we can tap into the wonderful resources of this fine organization. Our donors and supporters can be confident in the fact that we continue to refine and hone our organization's effectiveness and reach."

"The move to Raleigh truly has been a win / win situation for us," adds Robert L. Kelly, Treasurer and Director. "The relocation, an effective restructuring, and improved expense control have sharply reduced our overhead. This will ensure that we will continue to grow, improve, deepen and render better, faster, more scientific and efficient service to dog and man. We are not only healthier; we have a home and family and feel a significant part of doing what is right for the pure bred dog."

In fact, in two years the organization's overhead costs dropped from 28 cents on the dollar to an enviable 13 cents - far below most standards for philanthropic organizations. This means that more of what our donors give can go toward helping our dogs live longer, healthier lives. Federal donors are encouraged to give through their Combined Federal Campaign (ID #1261), or give online at www.akcchf.org.
