The American Kennel Club’s decision to remove the prohibition on advertising and solicitation by all AKC judges in conformation, companion and performance events is effective October 19, 2010. This change in policy is based on the tremendous growth in the amount and types of AKC events, together with the increasing numbers of available AKC-approved judges, and the fact that modern technology offers a way to connect available judges to event-giving clubs across the nation without regard to the traditional limitations of familiarity, communications, and geography. Therefore, based on these factors, and given that judges are not AKC employees, the AKC Board believes that judges should no longer be prohibited from advertising or soliciting assignments. The judge is responsible for ensuring that all information is factual and accurate, and that any advertising or solicitation is not fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading.
