It is with deep sadness we report that AKC Executive Field Agent Gene Brennan of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2010. The American Kennel Club has lost a devoted employee of 23 years and will be deeply missed by all of us here. Our sympathies go out to his wife CJ Brennan and his family.
Gene first visited the AKC’s offices in New York as a child and returned to work for the AKC some 35 years later, serving in the Investigations and Inspections Department for his entire career. He worked tirelessly as an inspector in Washington, Oregon, and California, and shared a love of purebred dogs and breeding with the breeder customers he served. His loss will be deeply felt by those customers and most importantly, the dogs which he championed. He was a kind soul who loved dogs and people and never hesitated to help kennel clubs, fellow employees, and breeders.
Gene was an ambassador for the AKC in all walks of his life, and among other expressions of that love and commitment, gave his personal time and resources every year to travel to the AKC Eukanuba National Championship Show to volunteer his time and efforts in support of the event.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife CJ, and his Rottweilers, German Pinschers, and "pack of Yorkies" as he affectionately called them.
The Rosary will be said Friday, May 7, at 7 p.m. with funeral services held Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at Fir Lawn Funeral Home, 1070 W Main, Hillsboro, Oregon 97124, (503-648-3158) which is in charge of arrangements.
Gene’s family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the AKC Canine Health Foundation. www.caninehealthfoundation.org.
