Dog lovers profess that man's best friend will fetch their morning paper and warm hearts with soulful eyes, while stalwart feline admirers attest that there is nothing like the calming companionship of a cat and the serenity that a purring pet in one's lap can bring. Since human-kind first domesticated dogs and cats thousands of years ago, people have debated over which is the better pet.

In the spirit of the first stand-alone Meet the Breeds event -- the world's largest showcase of cats and dogs -- the Cat Fanciers' Association and the American Kennel Club hope to inspire a little healthy competition by asking you to declare your canine or feline allegiance. Final results will be announced on Meetthebreeds.com the week of October 13.
