Highlights from the August 2009 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors are as follows:
- The Cyprus Kennel Club and Asociacion Canofila Guatemalteca Acangua, were added to the list of registries with pedigrees acceptable for AKC registration.
- At the request of the Irish Wolfhound Club of America, the Large Gazehound Racing Association was added to the list of organizations with non-AKC events that may be held by AKC clubs.
- Revisions to the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier breed standard as published in the AKC GAZETTE were approved, effective September 30, 2009.
- The Chow Chow, Pug, Scottish Terriers, and Swedish Vallhund were added to the list of breeds required to jump three-quarters of their height at the withers at AKC Obedience Events, effective January 1, 2010.
- Chapter 1, Section 16, of the Obedience Regulations was amended, effective January 1, 2010 to allow a dog or handler ineligible to be entered in an "A" Class to be moved to the "B" Class at the same level.
- The Pointing Breed Hunting Test Regulations were amended to permit a dog to enter a lower class until such time as it has received a title in a more advanced class.
- The Coonhound Regulations were amended deleting a section on hearing devices to minimize confusion.
