AKC Open House

October 14, 2008 - Raleigh, North Carolina

Tuesday, October 14 was a beautiful, sunny day for AKC’s Open House in Raleigh, North Carolina. AKC’s North Carolina headquarters moved from a location in south Raleigh to a new, 75,000 square foot office space located in Brier Creek in May 2008.

In AKC’s front lobby, the AKC, AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), AKC Companion Animal Recovery (CAR), and Pet Partners, Inc. each had a booth to greet the hundreds of Open House attendees. Many long-time AKC fanciers, supporters, and former employees participated in the event.

Attendees were invited to tour the new office. The tour displayed the registration process and tour attendees were walked through the mail opening, document scanning, registration processing, and printing of registration certificates. Tour attendees also walked through the 2700 square foot data center, which houses approximately 90 servers, and stores over 40 million dog registrations. Tour participants viewed several departments and groups, including the Information Services Division, Veterinary Outreach, Audit & Control, Inbound & Outbound Mailrooms, Distribution Center, Print Center, Customer Service, Compliance division, multiple events departments, AKC CAR, AKC CHF, Registration, Judging Operations, Government Relations, and Public Education groups. Many of AKC’s fine dog art pieces and dog art reproductions were viewed on the tour, including the Shearer Collection of sight hounds and the Wedgewood sporting group plate collection.

Following the tour, participants enjoyed refreshments and had the opportunity to speak with AKC Executives and employees.
