A West Virginia measure that would have instituted statewide mandatory spay/neuter policies was not considered in committee prior to the hearing deadline.  As a result, the bill will not advance this year.

Instead, a resolution has been introduced that would require the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to “study the most effective, humane, and cost-efficient means of reducing the population of unwanted and stray dogs and cats in the state” and then provide recommendations to the legislature in 2017.

AKC GR will continue to closely follow this resolution and any recommendations.  We thank the many clubs, breeders and dog owners who contacted the legislature in opposition to the mandatory spay/neuter proposal.
