The Guilford County (NC) Commission is holding a second hearing on Thursday, October 5, on a proposal that would require the sterilization of all dogs over 6 months old in the county unless you pay a $200 permit for every intact dog you own, with very few vague exemptions that will not protect responsible dog owners, show dogs, or sportsmen in every circumstance.
There was an initial hearing on September 21, and it only received one “no” vote. If it passes on Thursday by even a simple majority, it will become law, effective January 1, 2018.
It is essential for all who reside or participate in events in Guilford County to contact the County Commissioners and the County Clerk to the Board TODAY (even if you have already done so), and consider attending the hearing on Thursday, October 5. Respectfully ask them to:
1) Not support the proposal as currently written, and
2) Delay the vote in order to allow time to develop an effective alternative solution.
