AKC Government Relations is pleased to share the latest issue of our In Session Congressional newsletter, which is sent to members of Congress and staff.  This issue highlights our Capitol Hill celebration of National Purebred Dog Day, which included a reception where members of Congress, staff and guests could meet purebred dogs representing each breed group –including German Shepherd Dog “Rumor”, the 2015 Winner of the AKC National Championship and  the 2017 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

National Purebred Dog Day celebrates the heritage of purebred dogs and the ways they enrich our lives and help millions every day.  One highlight of the celebration was presentation of AKC’s K9 Officer Award to the entire U.S. Capitol Police  K-9 Unit for their tireless work in protecting the Capitol every day.

National Purebred Dog Day is celebrated each year on May . We will be providing more information on how you and your club can help recognize and celebrate this day with us next year.

Be sure to visit AKC’s Legislative Action Center (www.akcgr.org) for talking points and materials on key issues that you can share with your lawmakers to promote responsible purebred dog ownership and breeding.  If you have any questions on legislative issues in your area, please contact AKC Government Relations at (919) 816-3720 or doglaw@akc.org.
