Kate Solberg

By Bonnie Hidalgo, AKC Field Representative

Eight year old Kate Solberg entered the South Dakota Pointing Dog Club’s AKC Hunt Test on Saturday August 30, 2008. She is the daughter of Rick and Wendy Solberg. She ran Maggie, a spirited German Wirehair in the Junior Hunter test. Kate, with coaching from her Dad, got Maggie to complete the course with acceptable bird work. The youthful handler did a good job of guiding her charge around the course and in flushing quail that Maggie pointed.

It was Kate’s first participation in an AKC Hunt test and she succeeded; Maggie was awarded a Junior Hunter qualification. In addition to Maggie’s record, the qualification will go on Kate’s Junior handler record.

It is hoped that Kate Solberg will continue her interest in hunting dogs, the sport would benefit from increased participation by youths.
