Asm. Levine has made further technical amendments to AB 1634. THESE AMENDMENTS DO NOT ADDRESS FANCIER'S CONCERNS. For example, one amendment provides an exemption for owners of dogs who move from another state into California, but does not provide an exemption for dogs temporarily in California for shows and competitions.
The lack of substantive amendments to the bill demonstrate a fundamental lack of understanding or appreciation of fancier's and concerned dog owner's interests. AKC remains vehemently opposed to AB 1634. We strongly urge all breeders and concerned dog owners in California to mail a letter or visit your Assemblymember to express your strong opposition to the bill.
The Canine Legislation Department will continue to monitor developments in California, and will issue Legislative Alerts as they warrant.
