VA UPDATE:  Tethering Hearing Postponed

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has just announced that the hearing scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, on the proposal to prohibit all tethering over 1 hour has been postponed.

As introduced, this proposal would have prohibited tethering a dog for more than 1 hour cumulatively, regardless of whether the owner was with the dog or if the dog was in a safe, humane situation.  It could also have impacted grooming, veterinary examinations and other humane temporary tethering situations.

The AKC thanks the Virginia Federation of Dog Clubs and Breeders and the many Fairfax County residents who have taken the time to contact the board on this issue.  Please read AKC’s previous alert for more information on the proposal and how you can continue to contact the board to express your concerns.
