AKC National Tracking Invitational
September 20th and 21st, 2003 - Asheville, NC

Karla Ebert - CT Jay-San Blaise of Phantomwood CD (Rottweiler)

Comments from the Judges
Mr. John F. Barnard of Lombard, IL and Ms. Joyce Klamut of Dover, OH

"This dog had a good start, never hesitated at the first turn and after encountering a changing scent picture near the second turn, the dog was able to work out the problem. She easily crossed the bridge, completed the next turn, the crosstrack and the following turn. The heat was becoming excessive and the dog, after working hard, was cooled by the handler. The dog then found the third article, but was unable to complete the track after this point." Video Clips: Click on image for caption and larger view.

More information on Karla Ebert

Karla Ebert is an accomplished purebred dog owner, handler and breeder. She has been involved with the Rottweiler breed for over 18 years. In 1982, she began training and showing her dogs and has produced several champions in conformation, companion, and working dog events. Her companion for the 2003 Tracking Invitational is her Rottweiler, CT Jay-San's Blaise of Phanton Wood, CD, one of the top 10 champion tracking dogs in the country.

Karla began training in tracking in the late 1980's. Tracking appealed to her because it provided a means to work her Rottweilers and is a fun outdoor activity. Her involvement in the sport began when tracking was still part of the Utility Dog title. Karla immediately achieved titles on two dogs during this time period. Together, Karla and her dogs have gone on to earn 16 Tracking Dog (TD) titles, 15 Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX) titles, and two Champion Tracker (CT) titles.

Karla is also accomplished in other areas of purebred dogs. She has bred eight litters under her kennel name Phantom Wood. Her dogs have produced many breed champions and several working-titled offspring. She prides herself in the versatility of her dogs being that they compete and earn titles in conformation, obedience, tracking, agility and herding. Karla occasionally trains other breeds in tracking and in her spare time teaches agility classes and gives private tracking lessons.

Karla describes tracking as a way to learn to communicate on a deeper level with dogs. She has learned about her dogs and their behaviors through tracking more so than any other sport. Tracking is her all-time favorite dog-related activity and she is honored to be attending the National Tracking Invitational, an honor she could only receive because of her dogs. She looks forward to showcasing her talented Rottweiler at the event. Karla Ebert resides in Mukwonago, WI.
