Herb Morrison
Tracking Field Representative

Herb Morrison has been involved in American Kennel Club Tracking for over 30 years. His dedication and commitment to the sport for these years has given him the distinction of a tracking expert. He will be involved in the American Kennel Club's first National Tracking Invitational at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina on September 20 and 21, 2003. This event will showcase the top 10 tracking dogs in the country.

Herb's involvement in dogs began in 1970. He trained his first German Shepherd Dog in obedience with the Tallahassee Dog Obedience Club in Florida. A year later Herb relocated to Athens, Georgia where he quickly became involved with the Classic City Kennel Club. He continued to handle and compete with his dog in obedience where he was able to finish to the Utility Dog (UD) title in Obedience. Since then he has train his dogs to 3 - UTD's, 2 - CDXTD's, CDTD, CDTDX, TD and CD. His involvement and rise in companion events led him to teach obedience and tracking classes. His success as a teacher has enabled his students to earn over 80 Tracking Dog titles.

Becoming an AKC Tracking judge is no small task. Herb has successfully been an AKC Tracking judge since 1976. His experience has enabled him to become a recognized and approved judge at all levels of the tests. His depth of involvement and time in the sport has also deemed Herb a source for information on the history and facts of the sport itself. In 1999, Herb served on the AKC Tracking Advisory Committee and has been an AKC Tracking Field Representative since November 2000. With this post, he travels to tracking events around the country and is able to interact and observe the sport as it evolves today. Herb also served as the president of the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI) and has presented several seminars on obedience and tracking. He was also invited to lecture at the University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine.

Mr. Morrison is a North Carolina native with an extensive educational background. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Wake Forest University. He continued on to earn his Ph. D., also in Chemistry, from the University of Georgia. From there he continued on his educational path at Florida State University. Currently, he is a research Chemist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Agriculture Research Service. He is involved in the local 4-H and enjoys woodworking. Herb resides with his wife Teresa, and daughter Jennifer near Athens, GA. Mr. Morrison is a respected official in the sport of tracking. His knowledge and expertise is highly regarded among the top tracking aficionados. He serves as the tracking field representative and greatly looks forward to the first ever National Tracking Invitational.
