Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How many dogs will be invited per breed?
    3 dogs per breed will be invited. If there are more than 30 dogs that qualify in a specific breed, then we will take a ratio of the total and invite that amount. Let's say there are 204 Golden Retriever’s, and then we would invite 20 Golden Retriever’s on the first round of invitations.
  2. Will PAL/ILP dogs be invited?
    Yes. All breeds eligible to compete in AKC Companion Events will be included.
  3. What is the Qualifying period?
    It is July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.
  4. How will the dogs be determined?
    Each dog must be ranked in the top 25 dogs by number of OTCH (Obedience Trial Championship) points or ranked in the top three of their respective breeds by OTCH points.
  5. How can I find out where my dog is ranked?
    There is a free report available online to view the dogs by breed that rank within the top of their breed during the event qualifying period. Also, there is a free report available that includes the top 25 ranked dogs among all breeds based on the total number of OTCH points earned during qualifying period.
  6. Will there be sits and downs at the Obedience Invitational?
    Yes, we will have Group exercises – Open Sit and Down stays on Saturday. The down will be before performed prior to the sit.
  7. If I enter more that one dog, will my dogs be separated for the stays?
    Yes, we will make ever effort to separate your dogs adequately.
  8. How will I know where to start and what ring I go to next?
    You will also receive a copy of the ring layout and your armband number prior to the event. At the bottom of the ring layout will be armband numbers listed in each ring. Find your armband number; that will be your starting ring. After you have completed the exercises in the first ring, you then move to the next ring clockwise – to the right. Even if you start in ring 1, you will then move to ring 6.
