The AKC Obedience World Cup Team gave nearly flawless performances at the 2nd obedience competition at Crufts in Birmingham, England. The competition was held Sunday, March 13th at the National Exhibition Centre. Our dogs and handlers competed at the highest level of obedience against other countries from around the world.

Our team members were:

  • Joanne Johnson and "Hobby" a Shetland Sheepdog, OTCH Jo's Xpensive Hobi O' Redfield UDX70 MX AXJ
  • Bridget Carlsen and "Soupy" a Golden Retriever, OTCH High Times Belvedere’s Duck Soup UDX8 MH
  • Dave Gannon and "Skater" a Golden Retriever, OTCH Breakwater Ice Skater UDX19 JH
  • Our alternate team was Kathleen Rasinowich-Platt and "Wrigley" a Golden Retriever, OTCH First String’s Cubby Bear UDX21 AX NAJ.

The AKC would like to thank all of the American supporters who supported the team by sending cards and good wishes to decorate our bench.

It was obvious that each dog and handler team had worked hard to perfect their performances to earn the highest possible scores from the prescribed set of exercises selected by the UK. The scoring is determined in this manner.

Team competition, 21 dogs to run in total (3 per team).
Winning dog receives 31 points,
2nd place - 30pts
3rd place - 29pts
4th place - 28pts etc… down to 21st dog - 1 pt.
The total points earned by the three dogs will be calculated to get the overall team total. The team with highest points is the winning team.

The USA was 3rd in line for the running order of competition. We were up against 9 other countries, making the challenge even greater this year.

The results are as follows:

1st Jane Moran – Wales
2nd Herbie Watson – England
