The Carolina Lure Coursing Society was the host club that held the 2007 AKC National Lure Coursing Championship on October 6-7-2007. This prestigious event is held only once each year and was held at the beautiful Flintrock Farm, located just west of Reidsville, North Carolina on highway 158.

There was a total entry each day of 102 of the very best lure coursing hounds in the United States. These hounds came from as far away as California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, and Washington state to compete in this event. To even enter this event the dogs had to hold an AKC Field Champion title, be in the top 25 in rankings of their breed or have a major win at an AKC lure coursing event.

The breeds represented at this event were Afghan Hounds, Basenjis, Borzois, Greyhounds, Ibizan Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Salukis, Scottish Deerhounds and Whippets.

These great athletes chase a plastic lure around an 850 to 1100 yard course for fun and exercise. They were judged by professional judges on their speed, how well they follow the plastic lure, their agility, their endurance and their overall ability.

The judges were Ms. Christie Beetz from Hollister, Ca., Mr. Ian Davies from Fredrick, Md., Mr. David Hayek from Escondido, Ca. and Ms. Kristy Lampe from Harrisburg, NC.

After two grueling days of competition, the dog named National Lure Coursing Champion was Violet. She is a Pharaoh Hound and her full name is Dual Champion Hallam's Essence of Violet SC LCX. She lives with the proud owners Dominic Cartota and Stephen Sipperly of New York. Violet, who is also a conformation show champion, will now add the title NLCC to her name. The National Lure Coursing Championship is won by only one dog in the world each year.
