2009 American Whippet Club National
April 4, 2009 – Fairburn, GA

The American Whippet Club held their National Lure Coursing event on Saturday, the 5th of April. This performance event was held at one of the most beautiful horse farms in the United States. This farm, the Chattahoochee Hills Farm, consists of over 8000 acres of rolling pastures, tall forests, beautiful lakes and 10 miles of property frontage on the Chattahoochee River.

On Friday two separate Junior Courser Tests were held at Les Pekarski’s home field, with a total entry of 21.

The trial started at 7:30am with the inspection of all of the entries, to make sure none are lame and that none of the females are in season. There were 78 entries in the Open Stake, 26 in the Specials Stake and 6 Veterans, for a total of 110 entries.

The course that the dogs ran at least twice was over an 840 yard course of slightly rolling hills.

The Best of Breed winner for the event was Spirit, whose registered name is

"Cali N TNT’s Spirit of the Wild of Nitro SC."

Breeders: Robin Horner, Donna Richards and Dora McDonald.

One of the Junior Handlers present was Erin Dailey who handled "Smokey" whose registered name is, "BoBett’s Cut To The Chase."

At this week long event starting Monday the 6th of April, The American Whippet Club will also hold other events including Agility, Obedience, Rally and Conformation.

The conformation event is being held at the Hilton Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. In the conformation event alone there are over 1100 entries.
