Karen Arends, AKC Coursing Advisory Committee Chair
The AKC Coursing Advisory Committee has been actively reviewing the current lure coursing regulations, talking with participants in the sport, and discussing possible changes or adjustments amongst the committee in an effort to produce suggestions for the best lure coursing program possible.
One of the issues being reviewed is whether hounds having a Junior Courser title is sufficient evidence that they are able to run in a lure coursing trial safely with other hounds. The idea of retaining the Junior Courser title - but requiring additional certification of the ability to run cleanly with another hound prior to being able to run in competition - is a very possible solution to the concerns for the safety of all the hounds involved in a trial.
As different areas of the country have varying numbers of the different hound breeds, there is ongoing discussion on methods to adjust the point schedule in order to have an equitable manner to obtain points in all areas.
Entry of Field Champion hounds in the Open Class and pulling hounds after the first run - both possible ways to affect the outcome of points - have been brought up as concerns. Different ways of addressing the earning of points are currently under review.
The Coursing Advisory Committee plans to have drafts of their recommendations
completed in the next couple of months. Below you will find a list

of AKC Lure Coursing run smoothly, safely, and fun for all.
