Eighth Series

With 17 dogs back to start the eighth series, the judges went to a water triple with two retired guns. Running from atop a mound, the first bird was thrown straight up the middle at a distance of approximately 275 yards. The bird went from right to left at a slight angle back. From the line, the second bird was off to the right of the line to the first bird and was thrown left to right. Paralleling the shore line of the small lake, this bird was at a distance of approximately 200 yards. After the second bird was down, the dogs attention was drawn back to the left of the center bird where a live flyer was shot, left to right at a serious angle back at a distance of approximately 130 yards. As the dog was cast for the first bird, gunning stations 1 and 2 retired to nearby areas on concealment.

Cover on the land areas where birds were thrown was sparse with patches of grass being mid to knee high. Cattails around the pond made seeing the dog very difficult for a short period of time once they entered the water. Small islands added to the problem when dogs would cross over and disappear.
