Retriever Weekend in Connecticut

By Chuck Kimbrel – Executive Staff-Field Representative

A little more than one year ago a group of retriever enthusiasts in the Tri-City area of Tennessee recognized the need for a Retriever club in eastern Tennessee. Under the direction of Retriever field trial competitor Chad Baker they formed the Northeast Tennessee Retriever Club.

On the weekend of September 17-19, 2010 all of the required paperwork had been completed, approved and the first Retriever field trial in this area of Tennessee was held. The Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City area, located at the foot hills of the Holston Mountain range of eastern Tennessee, made a very pretty back drop and view for those in attendance at the event.

The event had a total entry of 125 dogs; they were presented with some very demanding and good tests by the panel of judges consisting of Jeff Talley of Tallahassee, FL, Dave Baty of N. Augusta, GA, in the Open All-Age George Free of Prattville, AL, and Jay Hinton of Louisburg, NC in the Derby and Amateur All-Age.

The Event Committee consisting of Chairman Chad Baker, Secretary Mark Chase and committee members Jeff Bandel, Jeff Jones, Lisa Styles and Brandy Collins did a very commendable job with their event.

This club also has plans to host retriever hunt test and will be a welcome addition to all retriever enthusiast in the area.
