First Series

The National Amateur started at 8 a.m. with a land double, utilyzing a retired gunning station as the memory mark. The line was atop a small hill overlooking a slightly rolling terrain area with knee to mid-thigh high cover. The memory bird was to the left of line along a tree line running the distance of the field. The gunners were out at a distance of approximately 220 yards as the dog came to the line. There were three gunners at this station. A shot was fired, the bird thrown and then a second shot fired. The bird landed almost straight away down the tree line and in cover just left of the road paralleling the tree line. Once this bird was down to the right of the running line at a distance of approximately 180 yards, a flying cock pheasant was shot left to right. As the dog was cast for the flyer, the gunners at station one retired into the tree line to a concealed holding blind. Video Clips: Click on image for caption and larger view.
