Retriever Advisory Committee (RAC) Meeting
Nelson Sills welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced the AKC representatives sitting at the head table. Those were Bill Speck (AKC Consultant), Jerry Mann (AKC Field Director - Sporting Breeds), Robert Young (AKC Website Reporter) and Charley Kneifel (AKC Chief Information Officer). Bill Speck then told the crowd that Gordon Heldebrant resigned on Friday as AKC Director of Performance Events and that he would be in the Raleigh office until a new Director has been announced.
Pete Simonds then addressed three issues:
1. AKC Discipline - He spoke about the need for experienced performance people to sit on trial boards involving misconduct.
2. Electronic Entries - Pete said that the way it's being done now violates the rules. It's in the works to have Retriever Field Trial News and others that meet criteria determined by the AKC to process electronic entries and results in cooperation with the American Kennel Club.
3. Large Entries - Pete spoke of the need of the people in the sport to pay attention to the quality of the trials being run. There is a need for "better quality trials" with smaller entries.
Draft of the Proposed Rules/Regulation Changes: Here is the draft of the proposed rules/regulation changes (PDF format) from the 2005 Retriever Advisory Committee (RAC) Meeting (official proposal will come in the future). They will be sent to all retriever field trial clubs within 3 weeks. The clubs will then be asked to return ballots by November 1st.
