Retriever Field Trials
National Amateur Retriever Championship Stake
June 13-19, 2004

Wednesday: Fifth Series

The fifth series consisted of a land quad, with two retired marks and two flyer marks. The line was on a hill side overlooking a cut hay field, with an uncut area to the left side of the field. The first mark was a duck at 280 yards, the gun station was positioned in the cut hay field and thrown into the heaver cover to the left, this station is the left center, the second mark was a flyer pheasant, the station was the right center and at 200 yards with the bird shot left to right. A dead pheasant was used at the third mark, this mark was to the left and thrown to the left at 80 yards. The fourth mark was a flyer duck, the station was to the right side of the test at 120 yards, and the flyer was shot left to right. After the last mark was shot gun stations 1, (long left center, dead duck) and gun station3 (short far left, dead pheasant) both retired. This was a very demanding test of both memory and stamina for all contestants. With many long hunts and numerous handles, and to nights scheduled workers party, it was apparent that the test would not be completed today and have to resume on Thursday morning.
