Non-Retrieving Stake: Day 3

Once again today the weather was near perfect for a field trial. The day broke clear and cool, with very little wind. Late in the morning the wind became stronger but this died down as the afternoon progressed. The temperature rose to a high in the mid sixties. We expect one more nice day before a chance of rain comes into the forecast.

The gallery wagon was enhanced by the presence of some of the ladies from the AKC office. Lisa Carroll, Connie Thomas, and Lisa King were on hand to watch the action. Many of the folds had talked to Connie on the phone and really enjoyed meeting the lady who had helped them so many times. Lisa King is learning our game with Beagles/Hounds being more her area of expertise. They seemed to enjoy the action and the fine weather.

Brace 15) NAFC AFC Lightning Strike “Ike” Pointer, handler Mary Devos
Wilson’s DP Trish “Trish” GWP, handler Ray Dohse
Ike had an early non productive then took a wrong turn going into the back loop and was not returned to judgment. Trish was doing a nice job hunting the available cover. At 35 minutes she ran into some running birds and could not resist the temptation.

Brace 16) FC AFC Palm Glades Lee’s Madeline “Maddie” GSP, handler Dave Walker
DC AFC Indian Sky Gordon Hill Scout “Scout” GS, handler Matthew Basilone
This brace was on a bird finding mission. Scout was first to score with a stop to flush at four minutes and a good find at twelve minutes. The next three game contacts were divided finds where we found both dogs pointing each time. Scout would add two more finds and a nice back to his total. After the divided finds, Maddie went on to score two good finds and a non productive. Maddie is very stylish on her game. Both dogs ran a good ground race and applied themselves well.

Brace 17) Tibercreeks Reindeer “Olive” GSP, handler Jim Heckert
FC AFC Day Tripper “Tripper” ES, handler Judith Hamilton
Olive pointed at eighteen and had a non productive before having trouble on her third find which ended her bid. Tripper went around displaying a busy gundog race. He had two finds where he stood his game with style to burn. He finished his hour much the same as he had started.

Brace 18) FC Field Quest Itty Bitty “Dixie” GSP, hanlder Ray Dohse
Rovans Dust Sevuk Dan “Clark” Brittany, handler Ivan Clark
Dixie took an edge and kept going resulting in her handler asking for the tracker at eighteen minutes. Clark made some nice moves, one taking him to the far to the left, reaching areas no dog had gone to. His game count was one nonproductive and then at forty seven he took liberty with a bird, ending his bid.

Brace 19) Wfk’s Bad Mad’s Pretty Boy “Pretty Boy”, handler Dave Walker
Archers Black Powder “Kip”, handler Jim Heckert
Pretty Boy fell victim to the large amount of game available. Kip put on a nice show. He and his handler trusted one another and that really showed. He applied himself well and showed he could take n edge to the end. He had three nice finds, a stop to flush, and one nonproductive. Twice he mannerly backed his brace mate. He certainly had everyone standing up in their stirrups.

Brace 20) FC AFC Peter Gunn “Pete” Brittany, handler Jim Carter
Cliffsides Friday Night Lights “Grasshopper” Vizsla, Bob Seelye
Lucy would have one good find but would take too many steps on her second find. Pete showed us that he liked to run the edges of the fields. He had three finds and a nonproductive. It was at fifty seven minutes that his bid was over when he had a bobble on his game.

Brace 21) Noble Endeavor “Man” Brittany, handler Ben Lorenson
Archer’s Cassandra “Cassie” Pointer, handler Jim Heckert
Cassie was lost as we came through the river area. She had been running well up to that point. Man cruised the course but was birdless except for a stop to flush. Unfortunately this stop to flush proved to be his undoing.
