Beyond the bridge, Gold had an attractive find in the trees; the bird ran at her and flew, narrowly missing the stationary dog. It was quite impressive. She scored her final find as the hour expired. Jeb never caught the front but was said to have performed well.

Brace 20: FC Loose Lady (Garcia) - Eshod's Thunder (Dohse)

This pair broke away from the Fish Camp. Longshot went south just before the course turned north at the dam. Henry pointed stylishly at 9, he took a couple steps during the flush attempt. The work completed successfully for both dogs. Dazzle pointed at 9, again with superb style. Someone called the location of the birds; Dazzle's handler asked "where." Apparently Dazzle thought she had been called because she left her position and went to him. This ended her bid. At 21, Teal pointed while ducking under the branch of a tree. He was close to the bird which only fluttered a couple feet. Teal turned his head to mark, showing impressive manners. Teal was picked up.

They were released at headquarters. Noon made a strong move around the field. He pointed on the right side, corrected to the edge and pointed again. His intensity increased at his handler's approach. His bird was put up with all in order. At 17 both dogs were side by side on point. The Olive stood with high style and intensity. Noon was picked up. Olive had another stylish find at 22; she whirled to mark but gained no ground. She pointed with no birds produced at 27 despite a relocation attempt. Olive's handling became a bit ragged by 38. Rain began to fall before this brace was complete.

The rest of the day's running was postponed until Wednesday morning because of the rain and the hazard of wet birds. Nine braces remain in this AKC Gun Dog Championship.

Along with the announcement of the Winners and Best of Breed dogs Chairman Voeks thanked all of the event sponsors.  Purina, Cabela’s and Tri-Tronics, were the major sponsors of this great event.  Their support is necessary and very greatly appreciated.  Additional sponsors include Ainley Kennels, Arkat (Enhance Dog Food), Bovidar Laboratories, Brooks Carmichael, Diamond Dog Food, Dogs Unlimited, Gun Dog Supply, Iams, Lion Country Supply, Scheels, The Checkcord, and Tucker Saddle Co.  The support of these businesses and individuals was paramount to the success of this event.  The Clubs of the Nebraska Field Trial Association which were gracious enough to sponsor Evening Social Hours made the stay at the Branched Oak Field Trial Grounds an enjoyable one.

The Judges for the Non-Retrieving Championship were Joe Luisi of Trenton, NJ and Chuck Parietti of Marysville, MO.  Joe was accompanied by his wife, Marsha, who rode a few days of the trial and even planted birds one afternoon.  Joe has been involved with Brittanys since 1975; he has titled many of them as Field and Amateur Field Champions.  Chuck has successfully campaigned German Shorthaired pointers and also has many Field Champions and Amateur field Champions to his credit.  These gentlemen rode many hours to see this stake to its conclusion.  They watched all dogs closely and objectively.

The Member Clubs of the Nebraska Field Trial Association hosted this 14th Renewal of the AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championships.  The Clubs included were German Shorthhaired Pointer Club of Lincoln, German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Nebraska, Nebraska Vizsla Club, Missouri Valley Brittany Club, Nebraska Brittany Club, Husker Bird Dog Club and the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of Eastern Nebraska.  Larry Voeks and Don Bergmeyer were Co-Chairmen with Tom Maneely as Secretary.  Field Trial Committee members included Tom Maneely, Jean & Art Armburst, Mike Zimbelman, Tom Lacoco, Greg & Margo Bailey, Bonnie Bergmeyer, Brooks Carmichael and Dave Borg.  The Stake Manager for the Non-Retrieving Championship was Tom Lacoco.  Tom did a fine job; he had workers lined up to keep things running smoothly.  Brooks Carmichael salted the courses with birds every morning during the entire field trial.  He was assisted during the day by AKC’s Gary Sadler and Mike Aldrich and by Greg and MacKenzie Schnekloth.  The Judges’ Marshal was David Taylor; he guided the handlers and judges around the courses; announced the dogs for each brace and helped the Judges with spotting birds in heavy cover.  Gallery Marshals were Greg Schnekloth, Tom and Laura Lacoco and Art Armburst.  The Dog wagon drivers were Bill Perkins and Tom Maneely.

There were an unusually high number of braces that ended early which caused some confusion and disagreement over how many would or should be run in a day.

Contestants were divided as to whether the running should have gone into evening hours in order to conclude earlier.  The event was originally scheduled to run through Thursday April 12; early pick-ups appeared to have made Wednesday the final day.  Only a rain delay on Tuesday afternoon caused the event to run over into Thursday.  Even with the aforementioned disagreement the event ran very smoothly.  All Committee members and additional helpers are to be commended.

Thanks to everyone who competed, worked at or was a spectator at this event; your attendance made this event the success it was!  The 2007 AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championship is now in the record books.  The Fifteenth Renewal will be in the Reno, Nevada area in the spring of 2008.  Plan to be a part of history in the making; please join us there!
