German Wirehaired Pointer 2010 National Championship

by Gary Sadler, Executive Field Representative

Seven dogs entered the Hunting Test at the 2010 National Field Trial in Sunnyside Washington on the Anderson Ranch. Neither of the two Master entries passed, one of two Seniors passed and all three Juniors that entered passed.

The Derby stake started after the Hunting Test; 17 dogs entered and 16 started. First place went to Jay-Mar's How Do You Like Me Now; second to Cascade Ruah; third was Cascade Tina and fourth awarded to The Natural.

Monday evening after the Derby stake was the Parent Club-sponsored "All Star." This is open only to DC, CH/AFC, CH/MH and CH/NAVHDA UT Prize I-titled dogs. The purpose of the competition is to highlight form and function. Purina hosted the dinner Monday night.

At 8:30 Tuesday morning Amateur Gun Dog started with 17 dogs entered. From the first brace DC Cascade Tumalo Tess won the National Amateur Championship with owner/handler John Williams; second was NAFC/DC/AFC Griffith's WillBeMine; third was NAFC/DC Ariel's Justa Gotta Go Now and fourth went to Wireswest Radical Girl MH.

Thursday the National Gun Dog stake started with 21 entries and 20 starters. Dave Lachance ran NAFC/DC/AFC Griffith's WillyBeMine? Willy must have impressed the Judges as he was called back for a retrieve and took fourth. Third went to Jim West with NAFC/DC Ariel's Justa Gotta Go Now (who placed 3rd in Amateur). Louie ran big, as big as any I saw. Stoli always ran to the front not as wide as others but snappy with several finds. Meg Eden showed CH Wires-west Mardi Gras. Stoli was steady and stylish on point during the retrieve and placed second. Running in the second brace the performance from the white and ticked Wirehair NFC/DC/AFC Tumalo Joe must have kept reminding the Judges of the standard to achieve. After all retrieves were made Joey was titled the 2010 National Champion.

I enjoyed this trial, the conversation and time with this group of birddog enthusiasts in beautiful country.
