Nov. 26, 2007 - Blue Mountain Wildlife Management Area, near Booneville, Ark.
By Bonnie Hidalgo, AKC Executive Field Representative

Week two of the American Brittany Club National Championship field trial began Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, with the Open All Age Championship. Seventy Brittanys vied for the title of this spectacular stake. The scene was set just outside Booneville, Ark. at the J. Perry Mikles/ Blue Mountain Wildlife Management Area.

This Championship ran under the same guidance as the National Amateur with Tom White as the Chairman and Steve Ralph as trial Secretary. These are big jobs to fill, especially when one remembers that the work starts long before this two-week long event begins. These gentlemen did admirable jobs and were aided greatly by a strong field trial committee.

Three extremely well-respected bird dog men sat in the judicial saddles. Judges Conrad Plevnic, Ken Ruff and Chris Rider have run great bird dogs for decades. They have each judged numerous National and Regional Championships across the country.

The Judges knew what they were looking for and found it in their Champion, FC/AFC Lane's End We-Be Clean. Owned by Tom and Judy Robin and handled by Chad Holman, this 8-1/2-year-old Brittany took home the most esteemed jewel of the Brittany world: the title of ABC National Champion. The 2007 Champion is by FC/AFC Ajax VII and out of Scatts Rambling Jill.

Runner Up honors were taken by FC Hi Proof Whizki, handled by Al Gorrow for owner Leland Dye. This 6-year-old is by DC The Whiz Kid x Spectacle On Ice.

FC/AFC Tee-Bone gave a quality performance to gain the 3rd Place laurels. By FC/AFC Jamar Reno x KD Dot, this 10-1/2-year-old male is owned by Dave Lincoln and Dave Lincoln Jr. Dave, Sr. handled him.

4th Place was awarded to DC/AFC Jayhawker Tequila With A Twist by NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker x Princess Haley II. The 5-year-old Brittany is owned by Jessica Carlson and was handled by Ed Tilson.

The winning dogs were the top-four Brittanys among those posted to the board following each day of running. The Judges list of top dogs included 14 hopefuls. The posted dogs were:

FC/AFC KT's Arctic Gladiator, handler Chad Holman
FC Gunrunner's Lady's Man, handler Jimmy Berneathy
FC/AFC Kinwashkly Dakota Molester, handler Jim John
DC/AFC TJ's Single Shot of Scipio, handler Paul Doiron
FC/AFC Megasmoke Limited Edition, handler Tom White
FC/AFCDakota Alley Cat, handler Tom Tracy
FC/AFC Tee Bone, handler Dave Lincoln
NFC/DC/AFC Shady's Tia Maria, handler Jimmy Berneathy
FC Hi Proof Whizki, handler Al Gorrow
Perfect Timing, handler Chad Holman
Cooper's Ozark Traveler, handler James Doherty
FC Tequila Joker's Jose Cuervo, handler Jimmy Berneathy
DC/AFC Jayhawker Tequila With A Twist, handler Ed Tillson
FC/AFC Lane's End We Be Clean

Three of these dogs were consistent enough to have made "the board" in both the 2007 National Championship and the 2007 National Amateur Championship. Those dogs are the 2007 NAFC runner-up Dakota Alley Cat, Cooper's Ozark Traveler and 2006 National Champion Shady's Tia Maria.
