Bayou Dachshund Club of New Orleans Field Trials
The morning of Saturday, January 8, 2005 was chilly and misty. The grounds at the Dixie Springs Beagle Club in Prentiss, MS were damp. And that all made it just perfect for the Bayou DC of New Orleans licensed field trial. The grounds, owned by Joe Hollingshead were in perfect condition with just the right amount of rabbits for the Dachshunds. The low cover allowed the judges to easily follow rabbits and dogs. And the weather conditions were perfect for scenting. We could not have asked for more…but we were also treated to some great food served by Stan Knoll.
The entries closed and the drawing took place at 7am but Stan had the coffee ready by 6:30am and a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits with butter and a variety of jellies shortly afterwards.

We broke for a lunch of fabulous arroz con pollo, along with an unusual and tasty coleslaw and an array of desserts that any restaurant would envy! We all really wanted a nap after the outstanding food, but we headed to the field.
The OAAB stake was under the watchful eyes of judges Scott Woodall and Mike Nothstein in the front enclosure. The Field Champion Bitch stake headed to the back field with judges Larry Innes and Ann Steele. FC Bitches was won by Tazzie owned by Sian Kwa.

Mandy became a new Field Champion with her win. And Hope’s owners, Linda and Glen Cockburn were thrilled with her placing at her very first field trial. She went on to repeat the placing on Sunday and moved along the way to her Field Championship.
By 4pm it was all over but the awards. BOW was Mandy. Best FC was Bolivar who also went on to win Absolute.

I would be remiss if I did not say something about Mr. Hollingshead’s great grounds. He has an ample supply of rabbits and excellent cover for them. He has laid out the grounds so that it only takes three beaters for each stake, which is a real plus since we got so many owners entering multiple dogs. And he is a genial host with a wealth of beagling knowledge.
Bayou Dachshund Club of New Orleans should be proud of the job they did holding this field trial. Good rabbits. Good grounds. Good judges. Good dogs. Good food. It doesn’t get any better than that !
