2016 AKC POINTING BREED GUN DOG CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Braces 28-33: Saturday March 5

 

Brace 28:

DC Just Call Me Lucky Ned Pepper (aka Ned) Brittany male owned and handled by Franklin Campbell and Whizski Pete (aka Pete) Brittany male owned by Charlie Baglan and Dale Pool, handled by Dale Pool were the opening brace on Saturday. Pete pointed at 25 just prior to Turner Road but it was not productive. He pointed again just beyond the big pond at 39. He stood with attractive style and good manners for the flush of a covey. Some of the birds flew past the front gallery and put in. Ned came along, unsuspecting and pointed them nicely at 41. He vanished before the Turner Ditch and his tracker was called for at 50. Pete continued hunting until time was called.

Brace 29:

Thrillem’s Dust Devil (aka DD) Pointer female owned and handled by Mark Devos was braced with FC/AFC Snowy River Wildfire Smoke (aka Smoke) GSP female owned by Chase & Mark Verdoorn and handled by Chase. Both dogs made some strong early moves. Smoke was eventually lot. DD scored nicely on a covey at 20, she was found by her scout as the course swept past the field trial barns. All was in good order. She continued her hour predominantly forward and made some attractive moves. At time she was nicely forward.

Brace 30:

Higear’s Ottomatic Overdrive (aka Otto) Weimaraner male owned by Ray & Connie Nowell and handled by Diane Vater was paired with Milly’s Little Rebel (aka Jeb) owned by Chris Roberds and handled by Jamie Fountain. There was a little quarrel at the start of the brace but the dogs were split up and taken on. Both dogs covered a fair amount of ground. At 29, point was called in the pine row for Jeb; Otto came in but failed to back. Jeb was mannerly through flush and shot. Jeb continued until 40 when he was slow to stop on a pair of quail that lifted in front of him.

Brace 31:

Erin’s Moody River (aka Jessie) Pointer female owned by Bob, Tracy and Patrick Doran, handled by Ray Dohse and Gunn’s-A-Blaz’n (aka Annie) Brittany female owned and handled by Jim Carter, DVM. Jesse was testing the limits of the course, hunting hard. She was seen just enough early in the hour but at 32 minutes her handler called for the tracker ending her bid. Annie also used the course well, hunting well and applying herself well. She would finish the hour without birds.

Brace 32:

Emma Tayshon (aka Emma) Brittany female handled by Jim Carter for Jim Carter DVM and Drew Carter and Stoney Creek’s Blizzard (aka Sioux) Pointer female owned by Shane Anderson and handled by Ray Dohse. Sioux was seen little and the tracker was called for early in the brace. Emma hunted well for the hour making several eye catching casts. She would finish without birdwork.

Brace 33:

FC Campbell’s Razz-Ma-Tazz (aka Razz) Brittany male owned and handled by Franklin Campbell 2xNFC/FC Erbenhof SNS Boogie Woogie Bo (aka Bo) Weimaraner male owned by Duane & Kate Yoder and handled by Diane Vater. This pair was right to work at the first whistle. At near 15 minutesboth dogs had separate finds. Razz was pointing into a stand of grasses and briars with good style and unquestionable manners. Bo had a small covey pointed in a feed strip displaying his national winning style. When realesed both dogs went to the cover and continued their quest for game. Both dogs finished the hour without further game contact.
