Another successful earthdog test was completed on a wonderful spring weekend in NC. The Parson Russell Terrier Association of America held their second AKC Earthdog Test on March 27 & 28. The test was held at the Wilson Farm in Stokesdale, NC and drew terriers and dachshunds from NC, SC and VA. AKC Earthdog Tests are open to Dachshunds - all varieties - and terriers that have been designated as earthdogs, six months or older and registered with the American Kennel Club.
Intro Judges Charles Vance & Chris Hunter evaluated 27 dogs with a total of 13 passing the introductory test. The Intro to Quarry test is a basic evaluation of the dog's desire to "go to ground" to seek quarry.
Bob LaBerge, Lawrenceville, GA presided over the Senior Test on Saturday and the Junior Test on Sunday. Sharing the judging responsibilities was Sharon Yon of Melfa, GA. Bob and Sharon rotated their assignments, with Sharon evaluating the Junior Test on Saturday and the Senior Test on Sunday.
Saturday's event had a total of 62 competitors with 7 passing the Intro to Quarry, 11 passing the Junior level and 11 passing the Senior level test. Bob LaBerge commented that he had never had so many dogs use the false den entrance for the Senior Test and at the same time had not had such a high percentage of dogs passing the test.
Sunday brought 52 competitors with a total of 27 dogs receiving passing scores.
