Sunflower Cluster

If it is the beginning of April, then it is time for the Sunflower Cluster in Wichita, Kansas, April 2-4 in the Kansas Coliseum Livestock Pavilion I and II. There isn't much you can't see if you attend this Cluster, conformation, obedience, agility, lure coursing, herding, vendors and an Art Show at the Dog Show.

The clubs participating in the cluster are Hutchinson Kennel Club, celebrating it 50th anniversary, Salina Kennel Club, Wichita Kennel Club, Wichita Dog Training Club along with the Agility, Lure Coursing and Herding Trials.

The Salina Kennel Club hosted the Central Region Top Junior Handler Competition. Juniors from 10 central region states were eligible to participate if they had two wins in Open prior to the designated time period. One Thousand dollars in scholarship money was awarded to the Top Junior and $250 to each of the Award of Merit Winners. The funds came from contributions from kennel clubs within the Central Regions. The Cluster is very pleased with the success of this event and looks forward to its growth in the future.

This year's preliminary judges were Michelle Billings and Jane Forsyth, with the Finals judged by Anne Clark.

Additionally, the AKC Registered Handlers Program offered a Session for Juniors following the AKC Get Together for Juniors- AKC Registered Handlers, AKC staff and AKC Junior Scholarship Recipient worked with the Juniors on their handling skills.
