2009 AKC National Agility Championship

Saturday, March 28, 2008 – Concord, North Carolina

The start flag dropped Saturday morning on the 2009 AKC National Agility Championship, and nearly 900 dogs started racing for the crowns in six jump height divisions.

A beautiful rendition of the National Anthem on the violin kicked off the day at the Cabarrus Arena & Event Center in Concord, NC – home of the Lowes Motor Speedway. The performer was agility exhibitor Michelle Persian of Minnesota, a professional musician and youth orchestra director.

Eukanuba and J&J Dog Supplies are sponsors of the 2009 AKC National Agility Championship.
AKC Director of Agility Andy Hartman presented celebrity guest Marley, yellow Labrador Retriever star of the movie "Marley & Me." Marley entertained the crowd with his acting skills and stayed at the event through the day to greet visitors. Hartman announced that contenders for the 2010 AKC National Agility Championship will again head to the Midwest as the event returns to Tulsa, Okla., next year.

Competitors at the 2009 AKC National Agility Championships took on the Jumpers with Weave course on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, the nearly 900 dogs will run in the Hybrid class, a unique class only featured at the nationals. The class is a combination of Standard and Jumpers with Weaves, and Sunday's class will use two of three contact obstacles.

Following the Hybrid class, the top scoring dogs cumulatively for the three classes will be tabulated and sent on to the finals.

Before the finals, however, dogs that were close to making the finals will get a last chance in the Challengers round. The winner of each Challengers round will move on to the Finals.

The winners of Saturday's Second Round are:
