| INTRODUCING THE AKC HUMANE FUND, INC. By Daphna Straus AVP Business Development
A 501(c)(3) charity, the AKC Humane Fund is a not-for-profit organization that unites a broad spectrum of animal lovers in promoting the joy and value of responsible pet ownership through education, outreach and grant-making. Programs supported by the Fund will include shelter outreach, breed rescue, a dog fancier hall of fame, and national recognition for pets that change our lives for the better. The AKC Humane Fund will provide financial support to organizations that:
Anyone can join the AKC Humane Fund with a tax deductible donation. The American Kennel Club has lent its support to the organization by donating space for a Wall of Honor at AKC Headquarters to recognize the Founding Members of the Fund who have contributed $1000 or more. Several individuals, dog clubs and corporations have come forward to stake their claim on the Wall of Honor with personalized plaques memorializing friends and loved ones, both canine and human. Pfizer Animal Health became an early supporter of the AKC Humane Fund with the launch of its National Canine Weight Check campaign. During the month of February, dog owners visited a participating veterinarian for a free weight evaluation and to determine whether their pet may be a candidate for weight control measures including Pfizer’s new obesity treatment Slentrol®. In February, we give extra thought to the ones we love, and our pets are no exception. Dogs bring us love, loyalty and companionship, and they ask for nothing in return. A new charity, the AKC Humane Fund, seeks to pay back an age-old debt by raising money in support of man’s best friend.
