The 2006 Junior Scholarship Application pool was once again overwhelmingly competitive. In total, 87 applications were received. This year AKC is awarding 33 scholarships from $5,000-$1,000, totaling $50,000.

The application has been revised to include AKC Club membership or involvement at events. Additionally, applicants were asked to describe the ways in which they have been an ambassador for Pure Bred Dogs in their schools or communities. In many instances the applicant’s involvements in AKC Events have been utilized for school and community projects providing educational opportunities about Responsible Dog Ownership and Purebred Dogs. AKC is overwhelmed with the vast experience, levels of success both in the sport and academically that this years applicants possess.

Recipients come from diverse backgrounds, having participated in Conformation, Companion, Performance Events, Junior Showmanship, 4-H, Fostered Guide Dogs, Therapy Dogs and Canines for Independence.
