Oregon Dog Judges Present Scholarships

Judges present checks to Aaron Bradshaw and Lauren Wickwire.

Oregon Dog Judges Vice President Margaret Braun presented checks for $250 each to ODJ Scholarship winners Aaron Bradshaw and Lauren Wickwire. Both Aaron and Lauren are Oregonians who qualified and will be exhibiting in Junior Showmanship at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.

Prior to awarding the Junior Scholarship awards Cyndi Skinner and daughter Savanna Skinner put on a Junior Showmanship presentation in which Aaron Bradshaw, Lauren Wickwire and Stephanie Salas presented their dogs and together with Oregon Dog Judges shared the finer points of Judging Juniors. Stephanie Salas came down from Washington to join the seminar. Stephanie is 12 years old and shows in Open Intermediate. In addition to dogs Stephanie owns 3 horses.

Seminar Chair Savanna has been showing dogs since she was 2 years old taking Best Puppy at a Chinese Shar Pei Specialty at 2 year old! Savanna is 19 years old and she showed in Junior Showmanship from age 10 and is a multiple Westminster and Eukanuba qualifier. She was the top Junior Handler in Chinese Shar Peis for 7 years. It was not just about dogs; Savanna had a 3.9 GPA and was a multi sport scholar athlete.

Savanna’s Mother and Co-Chair, Cyndi, has been showing dogs since she was 8 years old and Chinese Shar Pei Junior Scholarship advisor since 1998. Her son Shea Skinner is a Professional handler who came up the ranks in Juniors.

It was fun to learn more about our Scholarship winners. Aaron is 11 years old in Open Junior and shows a Labrador Retriever. Aaron is an avid Duck and Pheasant hunter and fisherman. Aaron trains his dogs in hunting, retrieving and Obedience.

Lauren is 12 years old in Open Intermediate and shows a Clumber Spaniel. Lauren also plays competitive softball and her team placed 2nd in the State.

Junior Showmanship is an integral part of ODJ’s continuing education and we wish our scholarship recipients good luck at the Championship.
