California Junior Handlers of the Year


A total of 16 Juniors qualified for the California Junior Handler of the Year Competition. 15 competed under Ms Betsey A. Leedy. The winner of the $1000 scholarship was Shawna Brooks with a Golden Retriever. The remaining finalists were awarded $500 in scholarship money. Those finalists were Amanda Mitchell, Stuart McGraw, and Emily Sgarella.

A total of 7 juniors qualified for the California Agility Junior Handler of the Year Competition. 5 competed under judges Kera Holm and Sharon Kihara. The winner of the $500 scholarship was Dakota Skellenger with a Shetland Sheepdog. She also won the California Obedience Junior Handler of the Year Competition as well. Only two competed under Mrs. Rosalie G. Alvarez. She won another $500 for this accomplishment. It is interesting to note that this winner is a twin sister to the runner-up in both agility and obedience.

A total of 23 California All Breed, Specialty, Obedience, and Agility clubs, along with 5 individual donors contributed to these Scholarship Funds. A total of $3500 in awards was presented at our show.

This program promises to grow each year and The Sun Maid Kennel Club of Fresno is committed to its success.
