2005 Westminster Junior Showmanship
In 2005 the requirements for entry for the Junior Competition changed
to 10 Wins in Open with Competition. The entry for this Westminster
was 81. Eric Ringle, who participated as a Junior Handler with Great
Danes, and Don Carmody, a former Great Dane handler, judged the preliminary
classes.
Dr. Charles Garvin judged the Final Competition. Dr. Garvin competed
in Junior Showmanship with Dalmatians and was the winner of the Junior
Showmanship Competition at Westminster in 1969. Dr. Garvin has remained
active in the Dalmatians as a breeder and has served the Dalmatian
Club of America as President and in many other capacities over the
years. Professionally he is an ophthalmic surgeon. Dr. Garvin has
served as the Delegate for the Marion Kennel Club since 1990 and is
currently on the Board of the American Kennel Club. Dr. Garvin represents
the success that many people have had growing up participating in
the sport of purebred dogs.
