Your dog can help researchers make advances in the study of many canine diseases. Participation is currently needed in the following trials and studies:
Immunolight Therapy Clinical Trial for Canine Malignancies
Dr. Michael Nolan and his team at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine are seeking dogs (all breeds) with almost any type of tumor that measures 2 to 6 cm in diameter and is peripheral/palpable (mast cell tumors and hemangiosarcomas are not eligible).
DNA Samples Needed from Scottish Terriers for Hyperadrenocorticism Study
Dr. Kurt Zimmerman and his team at Virginia Tech are seeking DNA samples from Scottish Terriers for a Hyperadrenocorticism study. Samples are needed from both healthy and affected dogs. Increased serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity is common in Scottish Terriers. Findings in preliminary work indicate that this increased ALP activity is attributable to hyperadrenocorticism (HAC). HAC is a chronic debilitating disorder in dogs and contributes to the development of negative health and behavior outcomes including diabetes mellitus, obesity, musculoskeletal weakness, immune system dysfunction, and inappropriate urination.
Blood and DNA Samples Needed from Boxer Dogs and French Bulldogs for Granulomatous Colitis Study
Dr. Kenneth Simpson and his team and Cornell University are seeking blood and DNA samples from Boxers and French Bulldogs for a Granulomatous Colitis study. Samples are needed from both healthy and affected dogs. Granulomatous colitis (GC) is a severe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in which affected dogs have diarrhea that leads to chronic weight loss, anemia, and debilitation. The study aims to identify the genetic basis of this disease in dogs and to understand how the genes involved function in both GC affected and healthy dogs. This will facilitate the development of a genetic and/or functional test to identify carriers and eliminate GC from the breeding pool.
T-Cell Lymphoma Clinical Trial (Multi-agent Chemotherapy & CCNU Chemotherapy)
Board certified oncologists at multiple veterinary oncology centers nationwide are recruiting Saint Bernards, Bullmastiffs, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Boxers, Airedale Terriers, Bassett Hounds, and Scottish Terriers for a clinical trial testing treatments for T-cell lymphoma.
