Bella is an 8-year-old rescue Miniature Schnauzer that Eileen adopted from the Kent County SPCA. Bella has brought countless hours of love and enjoyment to Eileen and also hundreds of other people through her therapy dog visits. She has earned the AKC Therapy Dog Excellent title for making more than 200 visits and also has earned the advanced level AKC Canine Good Citizen title (CGCA).

“My Bella has gone from rescue dog to having five titles plus one national award. Bella is my best friend; I would be lost without her,” she said.

Bella recently won the honor of serving as Grand Marshal for the annual Dover Days Pet Parade that took place in early May. The public was invited to write an essay about a pet that they rescued, and Eileen wrote the winning story about Bella.

Eileen said she is most proud that Bella received the national Spirit of Planetree Pet Therapy Award in 2014. The award recognizes the role that pet therapy plays in the healing process of patients. “Bella and I volunteer at the local hospital twice a week. Bella is well known to all the patients and staff and always getting her photo taken,” Eileen said.

Bella is a member of the AKC Canine Partners program for all dogs, including rescue dogs.
