Stellar photographer Sophie Gamand, who caught our attention last year with her global award–winning photographs of wet dogs, has outdone herself.

The Brooklyn-based artist worked with multiple NYC-based rescue organizations to highlight pit bulls as non-threatening in this photos series, called “Flower Power.”

Gamand explains:

“This project started as an excuse for me to discover more about pit bulls, and to see for myself what the debate was about. Were they really all crazy and dangerous? Or were most of them simply the victims of a generalization? Like many people, I admittedly had prejudices against them…I realized pit bulls were always portrayed in very urban, gritty photographs…So I decided to take the other route and portray them like hippies, soft fairy-tale-inspired characters, feminine and dreamy.”

She encourages fans to get involved with the “re-branding,” so to speak, of pit bulls by following the hashtag #PitBullFlowerPower.

Also, if you are a proud pit bull owner, why not register him or her with AKC? Yes, that’s right—you can register your pit bull (or mixed-breed) with the Canine Partners program, allowing you and your pit to compete in AKC acitivites and earn titles.
