Autism Service Dog Saves Family from Fire

Cam Newton’s job as a service dog is to protect his owner, 21-year-old Morgan, who is autistic. And he took that assignment very seriously when the family needed it most Wednesday morning.

Morgan’s mother Susan Winfree was woken early in the morning by Cam jumping on top of her and barking in their Charlotte home, reported. She followed the little dog, named after the Panthers quarterback, to the porch, which she saw was in flames.

Because of Cam’s warning, the family was able to escape safely.

Winfree remains grateful to the dog, not only for the one incident, but also for the assistance he provides her daughter with each day. “He helps to calm her down, he helps her to socialize with more people, and obviously he protects her,” she says.
