The Shaw Family experienced every dog owner's worst nightmare this weekend: losing your dog. Not only was 8-month old, Ryder, lost, but he had fallen into the ocean while the family was on a boating trip.
Ryder, the Shaw's Shiba Inu puppy, slipped out of his harness and fell into the water while the family was boating off the coast of Noank, CT on June 26.
The family searched for their puppy for hours, even involving the Coast Guard, they told Fox 61.
After not being able to find Ryder, Claire Shaw said her family feared the worst, especially since they didn't believe their dog could swim.
And then Facebook came to the rescue.
Shaw shared a post on Facebook about losing Ryder. An equine vet eventually saw her post, and connected it to a post in a Groton lost and found pet group. He realized that someone else boating that day had found and rescued Ryder.
"They had found him swimming in the middle of the sound and pulled him into their boat. We are so incredibly thankful!" Shaw told Fox 61.

Thankfully the Shaw family was able to find their lost pup, but this isn't always the case.
