Fat Vincent is working toward becoming Skinny Vinnie thanks to the efforts of volunteers with an animal-welfare organization.
Vincent, a 7-year-old Dachshund, was a whopping 38 pounds—more than double a healthy weight for the breed—when he was brought into a shelter. His owner had passed away, and the owner’s family did not want to care for him, KTRK reported.
He was taken in by Melissa Anderson of K9 Angels Rescue in Houston, Texas, who has three Dachshunds at home already. She and her friend Lauren Friedman are helping Vincent slim down before he goes to a permanent home.
In addition to a special diet prescribed by a veterinarian, Vincent is swimming five days a week and is starting to jog a bit, CNN reported. In two weeks, he’s lost almost 3 pounds.
Anderson suspects Vincent may have been fed fast food because of his excited reaction when she goes through a Starbucks drive-through with him in the car.
