Meet the NYPD’s New K-9 Supervisor

The NYPD Transit Unit has a new sergeant on the job. Shaunie, a German Shepherd Dog, recently joined New York’s finest as the only K-9 to hold a sergeant’s shield. Shaunie is handled by Sergeant Randy Brenner, a 20-year veteran of the force who, according to the NYPD, is the first supervisor to become a K-9 handler.

Shaunie is named after Shaun Mahoney, an NYPD officer who responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and passed away in 2014 from 9/11-related cancer.

We wish the two sergeants the best in their new partnership.
